Ever since the early 2010’s (so basically like FOREVER), Tricks of the Trade has been seriously haunted by ghosts. It all started with the disappearance of a McDonald’s Fruit and Yogurt Parfait (April’s #1 favorite lunch on the Lazy List of 2011), followed by unexplained instances of a furnace turning on by itself (and get this– it NEVER WORKED before it turned itself on. We were always afraid to tell the landlady, because we were paying 1950’s-level rent for a three bedroom house with a basement in Los Angeles), shortly followed by a music box deciding it would be romantic to serenade us with “Ode to Joy” in the middle of one cold winter’s night. And then, the spirits’ pièce de résistance was revealed when Nellie found this message in our mailbox:

Don’t try to attribute it to well-meaning neighborhood kids you guys, it’s clearly a thinly-veiled ghost threat (at least, I need it to be for the sake of this story). The thing is, during this five-year reign of terror, Tricks of the Trade had been operating out of four different locations, which led me to wonder–do ghosts FOLLOW people? Would we be victims of this insufferable haunting for the rest of our lives? I got answers to these questions when the opportunity for a photoshoot with actor and more importantly to me, PARANORMAL INVESTIGATOR, Chad Lindberg arose.

I played it cool at first, pretending that I was there as a wardrobe stylist, but before the end of the day, he answered my burning questions: YES, ghosts do follow people and YES, I was going to be haunted for the rest of my life. Okay, he didn’t actually confirm that second part (mostly because I was embarrassed to ask), but he did say ghosts are often attached to people more than location, and that he’s had a little ghost circus following him for years, too! I left the shoot feeling pretty validated–clearly all of the incidents we have experienced over the years were supernatural-related, just like we thought (are you listening, MOM and DAD?). OH and also, Billy took some pretty great photos.
